About the TTC Program

The TTC offers a comprehensive curriculum that empowers early career educators to truly transform education. Through a year-long immersive experience, participants are placed as learning assistants under the mentorship of seasoned AIS classroom teachers. This mentorship model not only supports the growth of educators but also enhances the learning experience for students.

Education for greater change

Now in its second year, the TTC has invited 18 student-teachers from 13 rural communities around Antigua. Traveling up to 2 hours by bus to arrive at school and to return home, these individuals exemplify the dedication and determination required to foster change.

Program Highlights

Immersive Experience

The AIS TTC experience allows student-teachers to develop confidence, practical teaching skills, and pedagogical knowledge through 64 targeted feedback opportunities and daily on-site mentorship. TTC fellows rotate between classrooms to gain diverse experiences, preparing them to meet the needs of a rapidly evolving educational landscape.

Professional Development

After school, student-teachers participate in various professional development sessions covering diverse topics and skills such as the science of reading, math, artistic expression in the classroom setting, technology integration, and English language teaching. They receive a total of 61 hours of annual after-school training.

Expansion Impact

In addition to our full-time TTC student-teachers, we're expanding our services to schools across Guatemala. Currently, we're partnering with 5 schools in Petén, Quiché, and Sololá, offering mentoring via Zoom and short-term teacher exchanges. As we grow, we aim to invite even more student-teachers and provide increased support.

Impactful Outcomes

Elevating the quality of education in Antigua and surrounding communities while empowering early career educators to excel in their profession creates a ripple effect of positive change that extends far beyond the classroom.
